Science Career Days 2011
The Science Department at San Diego Mesa College hosted a two day Careers in Science event that was
designed to engage current and prospective students with career
possibilities in various fields of science. They asked for
professionals from our industry, faculty from local universities, and
representatives from professional organizations to come to campus and
meet with students in an informal setting where one-to-one and small
group discussions can thrive. Their vision was unique as it included
involvement from campus faculty, students, the career center, and the
community, all coming together, in one place, to engage each other. San Diego Mesa College SHPE used this event to recruit new members, as well as raise awareness about SHPE's presence on campus.

Engineering Career Fair at Patrick Henry High School 2011
San Diego Mesa College SHPE participated in Patrick Henry High School's annual Engineering Career Fair. The chapter occupied a booth from 8:30am - 11:30am and had two engineering demonstrations to illustrate the creativity of San Diego Mesa College SHPE. Two members fabricated a non-mechanical speaker that produced music from an arc of electricity rapidly heating the air around it. There was also a box fabricated that when a lever was switched to turn it on, a wood finger came out and flipped the switch back off. The high school students were very fond of the box that did not like to be turned on. San Diego Mesa College SHPE also had brochures produced that promoted San Diego Mesa College, SHPE, and the possibilities of establishing a junior chapter. The event was very successful and Patrick Henry High School enjoyed SHPE's presence at the fair.
National Engineering Week at Patrick Henry High School 2011
San Diego Mesa College SHPE hosted an outreach event at Patrick Henry High School during National Engineering Week. The chapter presented to the Engineering Academy promoting: the different fields of engineering, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego Mesa College SHPE, design competitions, establishing a junior SHPE chapter, and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields in general. After the presentation, the chapter demonstrated a robotic arm that was fabricated by members of the chapter.

Club Rush
Every semester the Inter-Club-Council and the Associated Student Government host this event at the beginning of the semester. San Diego Mesa College SHPE takes advantage of the opportunity and promotes their chapter to all the passerby students. The chapter uses the event to raise awareness of SHPE's presence on campus, fund raise, and promote the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. This event provides an opportune time for the chapter to recruit new members for the semester that lies ahead.

Fall Harvest Festival 2010
Fall Harvest Festival was an event hosted by San Diego Mesa College's Associated Student Government. It was a harvest and "green" themed event; clubs were encouraged to come up with innovative ways to promote their club using the generalized themes. San Diego Mesa SHPE engineered a tree to hold Tootsie Pops to follow the harvest theme, and created a poster with "green" facts to promote energy efficiency. This event was used to inform the student body of SHPE's presence, fund raise, and recruit new members. It was SHPE's first fund raiser of the year and was very successful. Items sold at the event were Tootsie Pops, 5-Hour Energy, Sun Chips, and Arrowhead Water.

Cultural Awareness Day 2010
San Diego Mesa College's Associated Student Government organized an event in which clubs could illustrate their subcultures. San Diego Mesa SHPE volunteered to participate in this campus event to inform the student body of their engineering subculture. This event was also used as an opportunity to fund raise and recruit new members. Fliers were distributed to passing students in an effort to spread the word about San Diego Mesa SHPE. The remaining inventory from the Fall Harvest Festival was sold and all proceeds went to the club's account for future design projects.
