The SHPE AHETEMS Foundation is a 501c3 entity that works in partnership with SHPE, Inc. to
develop educational enrichment and academic outreach initiatives for Hispanics. These initiatives extend
throughout the pre-college to PhD pathway and are operational through three categories: 1) K-12 Pre-
College Programs, 2) Undergraduate, and 3) Graduate Programs. The education programs are supported
and carried out in accordance with SHPE’s and AHETEMS’ vision and mission.

Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program is designed to enhance and achieve the potential of Latino students pursuing
degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Merit-based and need-based scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 - $5,000 to deserving Latino or Latina high school graduating seniors,
undergraduate students, and graduate students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude
for a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Scholarship application period is from January 1st to April 1st. Click here to read more information.
Scholar-Internship Program
The AHETEMS Foundation currently manages three highly competitive scholar-internship programs.
These programs offer both a summer internship at a research facility AND a scholarship for the fall and
spring semesters. These opportunities are designed to enhance and achieve the potential of Latino
students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology,

NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) SHPE Summer Internship
Students selected participate in a 10-week paid summer internship. Students must meet the following
requirements in order to apply: 3.0 or better GPA; be a US citizen, and pursuing an engineer or science
discipline of interest to NASA MSFC. All SHPE members meeting the requirements listed here may
apply. The application deadline is February 1st. More information about how to apply can be found by clicking here.
